Whats Is HIETexas

HIETexas is the state-level health information network operated by the Texas Health Services Authority (“the Authority”) pursuant to its mandate under Chapter 182, Texas Health and Safety Code. This network covers the entire state across the public and private sectors.

HIETexas dramatically increases health care providers’ access to patients’ health information to ensure that patients receive the right care, from the right health care providers, at the right time.

The Authority is responsible for statewide HIE under state law, and partners with local HIEs (listed below) to provide statewide connectivity. These HIEs cover different regions, allowing their participants to exchange health information within that region. The Authority is also responsible for statewide HIE governance through implementation of the State HIE Plan.

EDEN provides subscribers with timely notifications about their members’ healthcare encounters.

PULSE enables authorized users to access medication and clinical histories to improve direct patient care for individuals who have been displaced outside their normal healthcare environment, conduct epidemiological assessments, and initiate other public health activities.

The SANER Project is an industry-wide collaboration that aims to revolutionize outdated and unreliable data-sharing processes to improve real-time situational awareness of health care system capacity in the COVID-19 pandemic and future public health emergencies.

What is THSA?

The Texas Health Services Authority (the Authority) was formed under Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 182 for the purpose of promoting, implementing, and facilitating the secure electronic exchange of health information in the State of Texas. The Authority accomplishes this purpose through its state-level health information exchange (HIE) and privacy and security certification and supporting programs.

What is HIETexas?

What is EDEN?

The Emergency Department Encounter Notification (EDEN) system is a statewide, standardized communications tool for the real-time exchange of ADT (admission, discharge, transfer) data. Learn more about EDEN here.

What is PULSE?

The Patient Unified Lookup System for Emergencies (PULSE) provides disaster response volunteers and public health professionals remote and secure access to electronic health information during declared disasters and public health emergencies. Learn more about PULSE here.

What is the SANER PROJECT?

What is SECURETexas?

SECURETexas is a state program administered by the THSA offering health care entities privacy and security certification for compliance with state and federal medical privacy and security laws. Entities possessing SECURETexas Certification at the time of an alleged violation of the Texas Medical Records Privacy Act may present the certification as evidence to be considered as a mitigating factor for any civil or administrative penalties for violating the Act.
